Lord Favourites Porn On Twitter!

Most of us are guilty of spending too much time on social media, and at some point or another, we have all liked, retweeted, or followed something or someone that we probably shouldn’t. That usually leads to comments in the pub from friends asking what that was all about, or simply mocking comments.

Man looking at porn on his computer

Well, one person to find himself facing questions about their life as a result of their social media presence is Lord John Brown, as it seems he’d been favouriting some tweets from porn stars and porn websites. Lovely.

Retweeting porn!

For those who don’t know, Lord John Browne is the former BP chief executive, as well as a crossbench member of the House of Lords. As you might imagine, his position and his age have many thinking of him as a very respectable and honourable man to follow, especially on social media.

The 67 year old tends to retweet lots of things related to his work, such as when he is chairing important meetings and campaigns, but there are also some things you wouldn’t expect on there.

In fact, Lord Browne is the first chief executive of a Fortune 500 company to come out as gay to the public, and has actually published a book on the matter. For that reason, many believe his is one to follow, as he will talk about the important of coming out in your business, and that it is good to #BeOutAtWork.

Well, what followers definitely weren’t expecting to pop up on his official Twitter page were the NSFW scenes that appeared, as it seemed that the Lord had favourited a number of pornographic tweets.

Techno Guido

The favourites were spotted by the Techno Guido, a site aiming to show the kind of cock-ups people make online. They spotted the interesting looking favourites on Lord Browne’s Twitter and started to keep an eye on what was going on. Unsurprisingly, it took only a few minutes for this ‘error’ to be spotted, and the tweets were immediately removed from his page, but Techno Guido contacted them for a comment.

On their website, they state that “Lord Browne’s people have got in touch with the old “I was hacked” defence”, quoting them as saying “the account is run by Lord Browne and his office. It was brought to our attention a week or two ago that it had been hacked, after which a pornographic tweet was deleted and the password was changed.”

Techno Guido obviously don’t believe that Lord Browne’s account was hacked, and even go on the explain that, from their analysis, “a whopping 57% of the tweets Lord Browne has favourite since he joined Twitter two years ago have been pornographic in nature.”

That sounds like a huge number, right? Well, it isn’t really. It is simply a case of using statistics to make it sound more impressive than it actually it. It seems that, since Lord Browne joined Twitter two years ago, he has favourited a huge total of seven tweets. Yes, seven. So, their 57% claim means that only four were pornographic.

Yes, this is four more than should have been, but is it really that big of a deal?

“The privacy of your own home”

Here on Escort Wales, we don’t get what the fuss is all about. Yes, he favourited some pornographic tweets, and yes, they are claiming it was a hacking, but even if it wasn’t, so what?

There are some, such as Oliver Wheaton from the Metro, who has said that “obviously there is nothing wrong with looking at a cheeky image now and then, but they are usually best enjoyed in the privacy of your own home, and not in the office.”

We get what you are saying, Wheaton… but is it really that big of a deal? Lord Browne is an adult. Many adults, like me and you, will admit that we watch porn. We like watching it and we like discovering new stuff, and one of the best ways to do that is through social media sites.

Sites like Twitter are covered in porn, whether it is porn stars or the sites they appear on. Many will even set up separate Twitter accounts just so they can follow their favourite porn stars without being judged. Should Lord Browne have done that instead of accidentally favouriting them on his official account?

Not that big a deal

Honestly, it isn’t that big of a deal. Yes, it probably would have been better if he hadn’t used his official account to do it, but Lord Browne is making huge waves for gay businessmen and women around the world.

Are we really going to hold it against him that he favourited a total of four NSFW tweets in the two years he has spent on Twitter? I mean, that is an average of one dirty tweet every six months. I’ve seen Twitter accounts doing more than that in a minute!

We want to know what you think about this. Is Lord Browne favouriting those pornographic tweets and images really that big of a deal, or are people simply blowing this all out of proportion because they’re a little bit stuck up and uncomfortable about the mention of porn? Do you agree with me that it is not a big deal, or do you have some other thoughts on the subject?
