On our website, we have always been proud to fight for the rights of women everywhere. We feel that ladies (and men for that matter) have the right to choose what they want to do in life. If that is to work in the escort industry, then so be it.
Another thing we hate here, is racism. No-one should be pre-judged on their race, colour creed. Prejudice belongs in the dark ages. However, sometimes you read somethings so stupid, that you realise that certain countries, and elements of religions need to get their houses in order.
An Incredible Statement
A Saudi historian claims that women in other countries who drive, only do so because they don’t care if they get raped.
Saleh al-Saadoon claimed in a recent Saudi TV interview that women can be raped when a car breaks down, but unlike other countries, Saudi Arabia protects their women by banning them from driving.
“They don’t care if they are raped on the roadside, but we do,” al-Saadoon said on Saudi Rotana Khalijiyya TV.
“Hold on. Who told you they don’t care about getting raped on the roadside?” asked the rather shocked host.
“It’s no big deal for them beyond the damage to their morale,” al-Saadoon replied. “In our case, however, the problem is of a social and religious nature.”
Well, before we get the far rights groups proclaiming that this ‘proves’ that all Muslims are misogynistic barbarians, it has to be said that, the other man and woman on the show seemed to be in total shock at the idiocy they were hearing.
A Change in Approach
Well it seems that Saadoon realised that this argument wasn’t getting him very far, so decided to change tack a little. He claimed that women are treated “like queens” in Saudi Arabia because they are driven around by the men of the family and male chauffeurs.
Well, the host fired back with a rather good point, asking if he was worried that women may be raped by their male chauffeurs?
Saadoon actually agreed it was a problem.
“There is a solution, but the government officials and the clerics refuse to hear of it,” he said. “The solution is to bring in female foreign chauffeurs to drive our wives.”
That caused the female host to laugh and cover her face with her palm.
“Female foreign chauffeurs?” she said. “Seriously?”
Really, I can understand have different views on how society should be run.
Campaigning for women’s rights in the Middle East isn’t asking for the destruction of their social structure. However, women do need the rights to make real choices in their life.
As much as Saadoon has no clue on western civilisation, I actually believe that he does respect the women in his culture, even if it comes across really badly.
However, at a time when the region is facing huge issues with militant Islam, then it could be a good time for countries like Saudi Arabia to re-evaluate the way they look at women. They could keep the essence of their society, yet bring it into a more modern era.
In the end, the whole region will benefit if that is the case.
And really, any idea that western women don’t care about being raped should be cast into history like any form of ignorance.
Since then, he has specialised in articles on the battle for equal rights for sex workers, sexual health, as well as bringing the readers fun news from around the world. He also has a major interest in LGBT rights, and is an active campaigner in this field.
When he isn't fighting the good fight, he enjoys spending time with his girlfriend, and young daughter. He also enjoys reading and taking long walks.
